Joy In The Morning

The Joy Ride

Celebrate the Season with a weekend of Christmas on Joy! 102.5.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Shaun Groves

Shaun Grove’s salvation story began at the age of six with a dash down the aisle during an altar call given by a fiery revival meeting preacher. That was the beginning of a journey - one filled with fear of condemnation. Over the next several years Shaun wrestled with that fear and the loving God he was reading about in the Bible. By age 12 Shaun found the peace he was missing when he realized that Jesus actually loved him - and there is no condemnation in Christ.

The life plan Shaun created while at Baylor University made sense on paper: marry his sweetheart Becky, become a church minister and write Christian songs on the side. But an internship with a Nashville music publisher led to a job, and that led to interest around town in his singing and songwriting. Shaun signed a recording contract at the end of 2000, just a week before the birth of the couple’s first child.

Shaun Groves' 2001 debut Invitation to Eavesdrop scored five songs on the charts and a half dozen Dove Award nominations, including New Artist and Song of the Year for Welcome Home. He was soon touring coast to coast and around the world with Bebo Norman, Jars of Clay and Michael W. Smith. “New plan,” he thought.

After a few years of working the music scene, and rarely seeing his family, Shaun found himself doubting the trajectory of life. After becoming involved with Compassion International, and it was then that Shaun Groves found his special purpose.

The Groves family began working with missionaries in El Salvador and speaking at churches around the US, bringing light to the situation. Now, more than just a musician, the Groves family consider themselves communicators bent on connecting the first world to the third - for the betterment of both.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Seth Condrey

Seth Condrey is a worship leader out of NorthPoint Church in Atlanta, GA. He grew up in a family that was always on the road - leading worship around America. By adolescence, Seth was writing his own songs of worship - enamored by the songwriting process, which allowed him to praise God using his voice and his skills on the guitar.

“God has spoken to me so much through music and I feel the need to offer what I can back to Him and to others in complete humility as a gift of appreciation for all that He has done in my life.”

Seth is a triple threat in that he sings, plays guitar AND is bi-lingual. In 2008, he won a Dove Award for Spanish language album of the year!

The Joy Ride

One week from today is Christmas Eve!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Ashes Remain

Ashes Remain’s Josh Smith and Ryan Nalepa (guitar/keys) met one summer leading worship at a youth camp located in rural Maryland - not too far from Gettysburg, PA. Over the course of that summer, Smith and Nalepa had a feeling that God was calling them to walk down similar paths. Desiring to be obedient to God’s will, Smith and Nalepa committed to pray together each day throughout the summer, asking God that if He wanted them to form a band to make His will known to them.

Months later, Smith, back in Florida, received a phone call from a church in Maryland inviting him to lead worship full time. It just so happened that the church was ten minutes down the road from Nalepa.

The band's Fair Trade Services debut What I've Become was written mostly for teenagers, from the perspective of what it is like to feel as if there is no hope, where you are your own worst enemy and ultimately what it looks like to go from that very real and dark place to one where there is hope and step into the light.

That journey from dark to light isn't always a swift one and sometimes has to be walked many times, but it is a journey that the band is familiar with and feels called to go on with their fans.

As lead vocalist Josh Smith puts it, “We’re just broken people who need Jesus.”

Sounds Like: Ashes Remain sounds like early Kutless, a smidgen of Pillar with a dash of Skillet. Hard-hitting rock with a heart for worship.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
OBB

Zach, Jacob and Nich Oswald share everything. They share a room. They grew up home schooled together. They even have the same iTunes account. They also share a love for making music - as OBB.

After being encouraged by their grandmother to enter the CBS Early Show’s “Singing Family Face-Off” in 2009, the talented Oswald Brothers Band placed third in the competition garnering national notoriety. Curb records signed the singing Christian brothers and now they are living the dream!

They guys grew up listening to Matthew West and TobyMac - and then they got to tour with them on WinterJam! Recently they opened up for Jason Castro’s tour - which left them star-struck because they used to vote for Jason on American Idol.

In addition to sharing their music with as many people as possible, OBB is passionate about church ministry. The trio serves on the worship team at Atlanta’s Passion City Church, the congregation founded by Louie Giglio and Chris Tomlin. Same team led by Kristian Stanfill, Matt Redman and Christy Nockels. It’s really unfair.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Citizens & Saints

Citizens & Saints is a worship band born out the heart of Seattle’s University District. Originally called “Citizens” - there was a conflict of copyright with another band from England - so the band chose an altered moniker, Citizens & Saints. C&S has quickly built a reputation for their dynamic hymn arrangements and high intensity anthems.

Last Christmas the band put out an incredible EP called Repeat The Sounding Joy - which was one of the most fun new Christmas projects of 2013! They have a new full length worship album out now - and it will blow. your. mind.

Citizens & Saints hope their music can do one thing—unite the Church by proclaiming the gospel through song and "Join The Triumph" is the message they want to convey. C&S sings to remind the local church that they’re part of the big-“C” Church—a victorious body whose sole job is to proclaim God’s Kingdom across the Earth.

The Joy Ride

Cause we need a little Christmas! Right this very minute!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Aaron Shust

Aaron Shust wrote his first hit songs for his church - never thinking they would be more than a chance to lead his local congregation in worship. My Savior, My God went on to top six different charts at once on its way to becoming the most played song on Christian radio in 2006!

In early 2010 he and his wife made the decision to pull up stakes from Atlanta and move their young family back to Aaron’s Pennsylvania hometown, where he was invited to take on the role of worship leader in the very church he had grown up in. Now they call Pittsburgh “home.” So they could use your prayers...

The past few years have been an emotional roller coaster for the father of three young sons, yet amongst the challenges there have been miracles with each trial and tribulation. Aaron's second son, Nicky, was extremely ill as an infant and then when their third son, Michael was born, they faced a new set of challenges. He had a heart condition and was diagnosed with Down Syndrome.

“I feel like every day is an adventure. Every day presents a challenge. How do we tackle this one? How do we approach this one? The answer is by the grace of God. In everything that comes our way, whenever we start to find ourselves overwhelmed, the mighty hand of God reaches down and picks us up. I feel that. His hand sustains us and we feel very lifted.”
