The Joy Ride

Don’t miss out on great times with great people in our great communities!
JOYNOTES!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Unspoken

Unspoken first came together after lead singer Chad Mattson met guitarist Mike Gomez on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic. Chad had been struggling with drug and alcohol addiction for years, and decided to go on a mission trip to re-build his relationship with God. It was there in the Dominican Republic where Chad’s eyes were opened and he came to know Christ in a powerful way - and both Chad and Mike realized God was calling them to something big!

Chad and Mike began playing music together, and performing live shows based out of Maine. Eventually, bass player Jon Lowry and drummer Ariel Munoz from Puerto Rico, joined the duo and Unspoken was born.

Ministry: In addition to their music, the band is involved with Celebrate Recovery, a faith-based 12-step recovery program for substance abuse.

Natalie Grant

Natalie Grant is an award winning singer and songwriter. She won four consecutive Female Vocalist of the Year Awards (2006-2009) at the Dove's and is never far from the top of the charts.  Born in Seattle, she currently lives in Nashville with her Canadian music producer husband, Bernie Herms, and their three daughters which includes a set of twins.  Beyond her artistry, Natalie Grant is an advocate for victims of human trafficking. Abolition International, which Grant founded in 2005 under the name The Home Foundation, has raised over a quarter of a million dollars to fight the trafficking of women and children for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

Natalie is now hosting It Takes A Church on The Game Show Network. This reality dating series lets churches set up their most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes, cover them in prayer and then watch their awkward blind dates. Sounds lovely.

Everfound

Everfound is a band comprised of four brothers who were born in Russia and whose family followed their faith to the US. This family understands sacrifice for the sake of the Gospel. In fact - the boys’ great uncle spent 20 years in Soviet prison for distributing Bibles.

Right out of the gate, their music was featured on History Channel's acclaimed The Bible. The producers (Mark Burnett and Roma Downey) loved their music so much, they were invited to play the mini-series kick-off party at Saddleback Church. After their performance, pastor Rick Warren took to Twitter to tell his millions of followers, "..mark my word: [Everfound] is going to HUGE!"

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Love & The Outcome

Imagine selling most of your worldly possessions (including the place you call home) and hitting the road to pursue a musical vision. You're leaving your native country. You have no idea what's ahead. You don't know where you'll rest for the night. You take stock and realize that all you have—or all you have left—are your songs, your dreams, your spouse, and your trust in God … and these four things make up the rope of hopefulness you cling to, day in and day out. This is the story of Love & The Outcome.

The husband-wife duo Love & The Outcome have packed their debut album with songs that speak to the faith journey they've braved these past few years. Vocalist Jodi King and her husband, bass player Chris Rademaker, have come a long way since selling their condo in Winnipeg, Manitoba (about 400 miles northwest of Minneapolis) in 2010 and hitting the road to share Jesus through music.

"We want to inspire people to follow Jesus,” Jodi says. "We want these songs to become a lifestyle, and hope that the truth of these songs goes beyond the thrill of the live show to plant a seed in people's hearts: to go for the things that they might be afraid to go for and join this joyful revolution. That's the whole point. A life that requires faith is worth living, and a life on the edge is one where you live hand-in-hand and arm-in-arm with God. That's what we're living for."

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Plumb

Tiffany Arbuckle Lee is the voice and face of the Christian band Plumb. Off and on, Plumb has been making amazing music that is never quite what the standard of the day happens to be. Call it being "before their time" or retro or inventive - Plumb pulls heartstrings with deep, passionate lyrics and sonically takes listeners to a place they can't get to through any other artist.

Tiffany Lee grew up in Fayetteville, GA and started her career as a backup singer. Her career is in its second decade and her music has been featured on six feature films (including Bruce Almighty) and many television shows (mostly on the CW). As a busy mom, Plumb doesn't have many concerts, but she is a studio rat and releases music once in a blue moon.

Over the past few years Tiffany has shared with her fans the struggle to restore her broken marriage. Through God’s presence, hard work and the support of their local church, the Lees rebuilt their family from a very desperate spot - and now try to help others along that journey. Their story is chronicled in Tiffany Lee’s first book I Need You Now.

Street Cred: Tiffany Lee also writes for other singers - including Michelle Branch, Kimberly Locke and Mandy Moore.

You can make that happen!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Lauren Daigle

Growing up in Lafayette, La., singer-songwriter Lauren Daigle had the opportunity to immerse herself in the soulful surroundings brimming with an eclectic mix of zydeco, blues and Cajun music. These diverse sounds inform Daigle’s colorful, distinct brand of worship music.

Lauren contracted a serious, contagious virus when she was in high school that caused her to be out of school for nearly two years. Although Daigle was able to keep up with her studies through correspondence courses, homeschooling and eventually attending a charter school, the last two years of high school were an unusually isolated season for Daigle who was just coming into her own as a teen.

However, it was this exaggerated period of loneliness that allowed the budding singer to become fully aware of her true desire to whole-heartedly pursue her musical aspirations. “Singing was becoming more than just a dream,” she says. “It was becoming, ‘How am I going to survive if I don’t do this?’”

She tried out several years - and moved forward twice in American Idol try-outs, but never experienced contentment in singing unless she was leading worship. Ultimately she connected with Centricity Records, doing background work for Jason Gray and launching her solo career with the release of How Can It Be.

Passionate about the plight of human trafficking, Daigle also hopes to use her platform to be a mouthpiece for those without a voice. It’s an issue she’s been fervent about since high school when one of her peers presented the then relatively taboo topic to her class. She’s especially attentive to the teens in her audience, realizing what a crucial season of life they are walking through and wanting her music to be a compass for those in search of the dreams God is sewing in their hearts.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Burlap To Cashmere

Burlap to Cashmere was originally a college theater show that Steven Delopoulos put together for his final exam at Marymount Manhattan college in 1994. He later asked his then 14 year old cousin Johnny to join him in the show, and the band was formed. Members Mike Ernest (guitar) and childhood friend Theodore Pagano (drums) followed.

Christian music was booming in the late 90s and Burlap toured relentlessly. Ultimately that schedule took its toll and the band ceased to be. In 2007 the band recorded a new demo, but John (Johnny was so 1995) was involved in a car accident and subsequent fight that landed him in the hospital and killed the band’s return.

Flash forward again to 2011. Burlap to Cashmere released a full-length album, long form video and experienced a renaissance. Most recently the band began recording a crowd-funded album, due out before Christmas!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Matthew West

Dove award winning, GRAMMY nominated Matthew West is the songwriting darling of Nashville. A pastor’s son, West grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois and released three independent projects before signing to a major label and issuing his first studio album, Happy. The project yielded the hit “More,” which went on to become the most played song on Christian radio in 2004. His follow-up History would continue his radio dominance.

Then life happened. West underwent a career-threatening vocal surgery in 2007. He didn't know if he'd ever sing again. But God brought healing and fresh perspective. Less than a year after his surgery, West released Something To Say and garnered more listener and critical acclaim than ever before.

The last several albums released by Matthew West have been, in a way, co-authored by his fans. He began writing songs based on stories given to him by his fans both at concerts and through his interactive website.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Tanner Clark

Tanner Clark’s love for music started with a love for Jesus. Saved at a young age Tanner always had a passion for singing and as a teen he began developing his voice and musical abilities. He was born in the foothills of east Tennessee and his unique sound and style have hints of his southern upbringing. Listen close and the sound of a mandolin or the slight picking of a banjo can be heard in almost every tune, Tanner has often said “it’s important to hold onto your musical roots even in an ever changing music industry where new sounds and styles become obsolete almost as soon as they begin.”

Tanner is also a worship leader at his home church, South Cleveland Church of God. He feels that it’s important for aspiring Christian artist to not lose focus on their ultimate purpose and that’s too lead the body of Christ in lifting up the name of Jesus through song.
