ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jonny Diaz

Jonny comes from a family of overachievers. Both he and two of his brothers went to Florida State University on full baseball scholarships! These guys are talented - two of them even went pro! But a year into college, Jonny found his calling was music and not playing ball. Turning away from a full ride, he focused on what God called him to do - and it is paying off in spades!

From the beginning of his music career, Diaz’s desire has been to write songs that entertain, encourage and challenge fellow believers. Jonny Diaz on writing songs: “I attempted to break free from some of the traditional confines of Christian music, but I couldn’t get away from the fact that most of my songs revolve around my relationship with Christ. He is the focus of my life and I find it impossible to honestly record my emotions and my journey without including Him."

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Holly Starr

Raised on a farm in the small town of Quincy, Washington, Holly Starr is not afraid of hard work. And that's good, because as an up-and-coming Christian artist she's got a hard path ahead of her! She debuted in 2008 and has been putting thousands of miles on various vans, touring the United States and abroad.

Holly Starr is also focused on the global Church. She's worked with Compassion International ever since taking a missions trip to El Salvador.

Family: During a trip to Israel, Holly discovered that she had Jewish ancestors. While leading worship in Israel, Holly met members of her grandmother’s family, whom she had never met and her grandmother hadn’t seen in over 60 years. She was able to reconnect the family members with her grandmother via Skype for a surprise reunion.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
The City Harmonic

In 2011, a band hailing from Ontario, Canada made a tremendous splash into the United States. Their debut album Introducing The City Harmonic featured a hit song that captivated the American Christian radio audience and scored a surprise late hit. The song was Manifesto.

The band's first full-length album I Have A Dream conquered American airwaves with hit songs like the title track, Mountaintop and Holy (Wedding Day). Their latest album Heart continues establishing a sincere track record of worship.

It'd be one thing if their popularity was fueled simply by their creative piano driven rock sound, but it's the lyrical depth that gives the band staying power. Many times, taken directly from scripture and constantly surging towards moments of worship - The City Harmonic's songs have been called "a roadmap with only one route, to sum up the journey of faith and mystery."

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Building 429

Jason Roy formed Building 429 to reach others with a story similar to his. He faced a hard childhood and found freedom and relief in the local church. The band's name comes from Ephesians 4:29 "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

In The Beginning: Back in 2005, B429 won the Dove Award for New Artist of the Year.

Building 429 hopes the songs on the GRAMMY nominated album We Won’t Be Shaken will remind people they are more than conquerors in Christ. “We don’t want to spend a lot of time talking about who we were before Christ because the old is gone and new has come,” says lead singer Jason Roy. "We wanted to talk about how David is no longer shepherd boy. Now he’s King. We didn’t want to talk about Moses the stutterer. We wanted to talk about Moses the leader of the nation. We really felt like we wanted to make a record that said, ‘Stand up! You have been called. We are God’s children. Who can stand against what God has begun?"

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Tanner Clark

Tanner Clark’s love for music started with a love for Jesus. Saved at a young age Tanner always had a passion for singing and as a teen he began developing his voice and musical abilities. He was born in the foothills of east Tennessee and his unique sound and style have hints of his southern upbringing. Listen close and the sound of a mandolin or the slight picking of a banjo can be heard in almost every tune, Tanner has often said “it’s important to hold onto your musical roots even in an ever changing music industry where new sounds and styles become obsolete almost as soon as they begin.”

On top of being a Christian music artist, Tanner is also a worship leader at his home church, South Cleveland Church of God. He feels that it’s important for aspiring Christian artist to not lose focus on their ultimate purpose and that’s too lead the body of Christ in lifting up the name of Jesus through song. Tanner personally believes that “worship is more than a song it’s a lifestyle of continued service to our savior…for a Christian every right choice, every act of service, every honorable thought is an act of worship to our Lord.”

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Shawn McDonald

Originally from Oregon, now Seattle-based - Shawn McDonald crafts somber melodies with rich lyrical depth. Shawn's journey has taught him to appreciate and delight in the truly good things of life and to embrace each season as it unfolds. He yearns to find contentment and accept every step God leads him on.

The Transformation: Shawn was a drug addict/dealer in trouble with the law at age 20. It was then, near suicide that Shawn came to know Jesus Christ. He is a life completely transformed by Grace.

In preparation for his album Closer, Shawn took a job as a taxi driver in Nashville, TN - collecting stories that fuel his new songs. He's also a budding photographer and deeply interwoven in the Seattle art scene.

Audiophiles: If you are into music, you'll be impressed by the undertaking Shawn accomplished for his brand new Best of... collection. For The Analog Sessions Shawn recorded everything on tape - no computers. Old school recording at it's finest. Instead of repackaging his hits, he actually re-recorded them with vintage instruments and even sang on one of Frank Sinatra's old microphones!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Phil Wickham

Phil Wickham is originally from and currently serves at Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego, CA with his wife Mallory. He began leading worship when he was just 12 years old.

Family Facts: Phil was raised in a Christian home, the second of three children (brother Evan/sister Jillian). Wickham's father is currently a worship leader, and both of his parents were at one time members of Jesus movement band Parable. Phil and wife Mallory have two daughters.

Phil has recorded and released two free worship albums called Singalong 1 & 2 - just as a thank you to fans - and as a person who is passionate about teaching and leading worship. He’s gearing up for the recording of Singalong 3 on February 15th in Dallas, TX. He’s also upping the ante with special guests Kari Jobe, Jeremy Riddle and Shane & Shane. It’s going to be EPIC!

Last year Phil experienced a fright when he had to have throat surgery and was forced to cancel a tour and remain perfectly quiet for months! The recovery went well and he can still sing beautifully!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Carrollton

Halfway between Cincinnati, Ohio and Louisville, Ky., lies the small town of Carrollton. Although only a little over 3,000 people call it home, for Justin Mosteller, Jeremy Menard, Michael Loy and Jordan Bailey it’s the town that shaped their brotherly bond, their music and their namesake. Justin and Jeremy live in Cincinnati, while Michael and Jordan call Louisville home. Carrollton provides a convenient meeting point for the band in between their shared hometowns and a respite from the demands of daily life.

All four members began playing music and leading worship at their home churches during high school. The band’s final line-up came together over the course of several years as they were paired together in worship bands around the region.

The band’s common identity lies in their shared beliefs and love for music. They are on the same page when it comes to family, faith and life’s real source of contentment. “True joy’s found in a life with Jesus,” Jordan shares. “It doesn’t matter what’s going on here on earth, but our true joy’s found in Him alone.”
