The Joy Ride

Go Wildcats! #theBIGdance #NCAABB

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Tim Neufeld

For over a decade, proud-Canadian worship leading brothers Tim and Jon Neufeld fronted the award winning band Starfield. After amicably parting ways to start families and do church work, Tim continued to make music, releasing a solo-worship album called Trees. The decidedly different sound from Starfield was described as “Matt Redman meets Mumford & Sons.” But Tim missed the camaraderie of a full band. He knew that going forward, he was going to need a road family.

Inspired by the resurgence of Americana and Bluegrass music, Tim formed his new band - Tim Neufeld And The Glory Boys. Bearded Canadian, banjo-lovin’ worship leaders united to record the most enthusiastic worship album since Rend Collective landed on our shores - aptly named The Joy!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Love & The Outcome

Imagine selling most of your worldly possessions (including the place you call home) and hitting the road to pursue a musical vision. You're leaving your native country. You have no idea what's ahead. You don't know where you'll rest for the night. You take stock and realize that all you have—or all you have left—are your songs, your dreams, your spouse, and your trust in God … and these four things make up the rope of hopefulness you cling to, day in and day out. This is the story of Love & The Outcome.

The husband-wife duo Love & The Outcome have packed their debut album with songs that speak to the faith journey they've braved these past few years. Vocalist Jodi King and her husband, bass player Chris Rademaker, have come a long way since selling their condo in Winnipeg, Manitoba (about 400 miles northwest of Minneapolis) in 2010 and hitting the road to share Jesus through music.

"We want to inspire people to follow Jesus,” Jodi says. "We want these songs to become a lifestyle, and hope that the truth of these songs goes beyond the thrill of the live show to plant a seed in people's hearts: to go for the things that they might be afraid to go for and join this joyful revolution. That's the whole point. A life that requires faith is worth living, and a life on the edge is one where you live hand-in-hand and arm-in-arm with God. That's what we're living for."

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Moriah Peters

Moriah burst onto the Christian radio scene with the beautiful ballad I Choose Jesus. This prayerful song was the title track to her debut album and also her personal mantra. At just 18, the world was offering anything and everything - but she chose Jesus.

Moriah Peters toured relentlessly, sharing her story and struggles - impacting the lives of teenaged girls, especially. Perhaps not since Rebecca St. James has a Christian artist come out of the gate with such an impact in the lives of young people.

Speaking of Rebecca St. James - Moriah is actually married to RSJ’s little brother Joel of the Christian band for KING & COUNTRY! And in typical awesome fashion, the couple actually saved their first kiss for that day at the altar.

The first years of marriage can be challenging for anyone - so throw in two touring musical acts, albums to produce and a viral sickness that put Moriah on the sidelines for a while - well it’s hard. So pray for the young couple as they go through this crazy season of life.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Brandon Heath

Since his 2006 debut, Christian music has twice honored Brandon Heath as Male Vocalist of the Year, he's been nominated for five GRAMMYs, an American Music Award, an Emmy and holds a variety of honors in GMA Dove Awards.

Off stage, Heath seeks opportunities to merge his public platform with his heart for community, regularly working with Young Life, Blood:Water Mission, Restore International and unofficially volunteering for many other human rights agencies on a global scale.

His Story: When he was just 3 Brandon's parents divorced. Growing up, Brandon was bitter towards his family, but he found comfort in Christ while in high school. At age 16 Brandon was invited to a Christian camp (Young Life) with some friends. He accepted Christ and began to learn about forgiveness. A journey he is still on. This year is the 20th anniversary of Brandon’s #NoTurningBack moment.

The Joy Ride

This will be the last week for The Joy Ride.
Next week we introduce All Music - All Afternoon on Joy! 102.5.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Rend Collective

Rend Collective Experiment is an eclectic collective of multi-instrumentalists from the North of Ireland. An inherent desire for something spiritually substantive in our increasingly artificial world is exactly what brought the movement of friends together. United by a common purpose, these twenty-somethings began exploring the intersection between God, life and community.

“The Rend Collective Experiment came together as a few friends started to pray and seek God. We wanted an authentic outworking of our faith and felt that we would just step out into the unknown and see what happened,” Gareth shares. “Before we knew it, people just started gathering around us and we had more than 100 people involved, musicians and artists, bank workers and teachers, and together we tried to figure out our faith.”

After many years in Ireland, the band felt the call to step out again into the unknown as the core 5 of the collective felt they were being called to reach more people. They have now grown into an international success with major tours with Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, Tenth Avenue North and Lecrae under their belts. Their heart is to bring not only a fresh approach to congregational worship, but also a heart and message through the spoken word. Their partnerships and tours with church leaders like Francis Chan, Louie Giglio and Shane Claiborne certainly shows this.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Francesca Battistelli

At only six years old, Francesca was an aspiring actress. She longed to be on Broadway - singing and dancing and acting. Francesca’s passion for life on the stage wasn't all that surprising, given her mom and dad’s extensive theater background. Her parents met when her dad was the assistant conductor for the national tour of “The King and I,” while her mom played Anna, the show's female lead opposite Yul Brynner.

When Francesca was 15, she put her skills to use in an all-girl pop group out of Orlando, just like NSync! But when that gig eventually ended, Francesca says she was thankful for an opportunity to clear her head. “Not long after, I recharged my batteries by going to this youth ministry that I absolutely loved,” Francesca shares. “It was there where the Lord really captured my heart for Christian music. I started playing guitar and really longed to bring something authentic to the scene that even non-Christians could listen to.”

From there, it’s Christian music History! Francesca released her debut My Paper Heart to rave critical reviews and a slew of #1 hits. Her debut album went on to become the first Gold record (Over 500,000 copies sold) debut of a Christian artist in a decade! Now four albums into her career (including a stellar Christmas record), Francesca Battistelli is a Christian radio mainstay, award winner and all around awesome person!

T-minus 2 days until SPRING!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Michael W. Smith

Michael Whitaker Smith was born October 7, 1957 to Paul and Barbara Smith in Kenova, West Virginia. Michael was your typical Southern boy – active in baseball, his family’s church activities, and playing piano. He wrote his first song at age 5 (I’m sure it was precious) - but as a child, he longed to be a professional baseball player!

In 1982, Michael was asked to play keyboards in a band that was backing up Christian & Pop sensation, Amy Grant. Michael toured and wrote with Amy for years before launching his own solo career. In 1989 his song Go West Young Man began what would become one of the most legendary careers in Christian music.

From pavement pounding superstar of the 1990s, to record label founding, mega-producer artist who jets around the world on private planes - Smitty has sung for Presidents and orphans alike! But that’s just another day in the life of a guy who’s sold more than 15 million albums, scored 28 No. 1 hits, earning three GRAMMYs and more than 40 Dove Awards.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jamie Grace

Jamie Grace is a young singer-songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia. Her debut single “Hold Me feat. TobyMac” landed her a nomination at the 2012 Grammy awards where she was the youngest nominee. That year, she was also nominated for a Billboard Award and four Dove Awards, going home as the Dove Awards New Artist of the Year.

Jamie Grace has since landed her first feature film (as Rachel in Grace Unplugged), co-hosted the Dove Awards pre-show and released her sophomore album!

Jamie got her start by posting covers and original songs onto her YouTube channel - capturing the attention of TobyMac. She still posts a LOT on YouTube… like a lot, a lot.

Awesomesauce: Jamie was fan-voted onto a limited edition 7-Up can. Becoming the first Christian artist to become “7-Up” can famous. That’s just a hop, skip and a jump from “Beatles” famous.

The Jamie Grace Foundation: The JGF serves to be a light in the lives of others by providing opportunities for children and their families in communities that may otherwise be looked down on or in some cases, simply looked over. Since the launch of the Jamie Grace Foundation in 2013, they have provided beds for children who were previously sleeping on floors, renovated Sunday school rooms for churches that were underdeveloped and worked a variety of other projects. ARTIST OF THE DAY
7eventh Time Down

The guys of 7eventh Time Down grew up as best friends in Kentucky. They picked up instruments together. They wrote songs together - and now they get to tour and lead worship together! It’s a story that every Christian garage-band dreams of - and it is the story 7eventh Time Down gets to live.

For 7eventh Time Down, every song is an opportunity for ministry. The band has toured with a long list of impressive artists, including Newsboys, for King & Country, KJ-52, Manafest, Fireflight and Stellar Kart. They are on the road over 100 days a year chasing every opportunity to inspire and point people towards Jesus.

In an effort to expand their ministry beyond their music, the band partners with CURE International, a non-profit that operates hospitals and programs in 27 countries worldwide where patients receive surgical treatment and have the opportunity to hear the Gospel. During the “Club Awesome Tour” alone, more than 38 surgeries were funded.

What’s that?! Spring, you say? It begins this coming weekend?!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Sidewalk Prophets

Integrating worship with real life - that is one of the simple truths Sidewalk Prophets has learned to live by. Dave Frey and Ben McDonald founded the band in college, having no idea that in a short time they would have a successful record and a loaded touring schedule. A demo tape landed them in a campus talent contest, which somehow connected them to Audio Adrenaline's Will McGinniss, landing them an opening gig for Audio Adrenaline which formed the template for their life now spent on the road over 150 days of the year.

Sounds like a fun life, right? Sure, if you want to leave family and friends to live on the road for half of each year, sleeping in the janitor’s closet at some venues, and making due with beans and cornbread, while trying to practice, write and record in between shows.

Exhausting? Yes.
Worth it? To Sidewalk Prophets, they'd have it no other way!

Dave and Ben rounded out their band with a bassist and drummer they found on Craigslist. So you never know who will respond to your ad!
