The Joy Ride

ARTIST OF THE DAY
All Things New

On the surface, singer Garrett Hornbuckle, drummer Luke Wycuff, bassist Joshua Schou, and guitarist Jeff Stein are young and easygoing: two guys met playing junior high baseball together and music runs in several of their families. But dig a little deeper and you’ll find godly men who know too much too soon about broken homes, broken faith, and broken hearts – and on the flipside what it means to be restored, accepted and made new.

The origins of All Things New date back to the guys’ mid-teen years as a six-piece outfit born from different Fellowship of Christian Athletes worship bands. The four young men from Florida have experienced different lives but are very much on the same page with this first batch of songs they wrote together.

Last year the band made their debut, opening up for the Newsboys in the Spring, saddling up next to The Rhett Walker Band in the Fall - and now they've started 2014 on tour with Francesca Battistelli and Sanctus Real. Take notes. That is how you launch a career!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Rita Springer

"My heart has always been to see people come into a perspective of worship that leads them to lifestyle membership and true ownership in Jesus. I have learned that He truly is the Best Friend, Father, Savior, and Lover of my soul." - Rita Springer

Rita Springer has recorded over half a dozen albums and toured the world, sharing her music and her heart with anyone who will listen. Her powerful vocals, unabashed lyrics, and philosophy of complete and utter openness before God have made her stand out in the worship community. Rita's live albums capture her passion for unscripted, spontaneous worship.

After years of sensing God was calling her to step up her responsibilities in mentoring the next generation of women in the worship arts, Rita Springer started DIVE (Deep Innovative Vertical Expression) - a mentoring program that focuses on small groups of women.

Gifted: Rita has been playing piano and writing music since the age of 11. More recently, she launched a clothing line called WEARING JUSTICE - and also speaks at the Finding Eve conferences for women.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jars of Clay

Jars of Clay formed in 1994, when Dan Haseltine and Charlie Lowell became friends at Greenville College. By the end of 1995, few had not heard their breakout song Flood. Ever since, this college rock band has pursued their art form with relentless touring, recording and writing.

Discography: To date, Jars of Clay has released 14 albums! Including their new release Inland.

Blood|Water Mission: Lead singer Dan Haseltine visited Africa in 2002, which in turn inspired the founding of Blood:Water Mission, a non-profit organization created to raise awareness and money for the poverty and AIDS stricken regions of the continent. The name is derived from, as Haseltine says, "The two things Africa needs most" - clean blood and clean water. B:W kicked off the 1000 Wells project, an effort to have a thousand new wells built throughout Africa and just last year they met their goal of providing clean water to 1,000 African communitiest. Former Bassist for Jars of Clay Aaron Sands serves as Administrative Director for the project.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
for King & Country

Joel and Luke are brothers. And they have five other siblings as well. One of whom is Rebecca St. James. Though born in Australia, they were raised in Nashville, TN and on the road with their concert promoting father and Christian music superstar sister. They were literally born into the music industry - like royalty.

Luke says, “We want to deliver a message that is about believing in something much bigger than oneself. You can confidently go through the ups and downs in your life because you know that life isn’t all about you and what you do but rather the hope and salvation of Christ.”

The Bible: Millions watched the epic mini-series on The History Channel - and millions heard music from for King & Country - they were featured in commercials for the television event and on the official soundtrack!

Mahwadge: Last summer, Joel married long-time girlfriend Moriah Peters - an amazing Christian singer/songwriter in her own right!

Joy in The Morning

Verse of The Day

Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled. (Hebrews 12:15)

Amazing Fact

Tigers have striped skin, not just striped fur.

Scriptural Pursuit

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Rachael Lampa
Rachael Lampa was born in Ann Arbor, MI and grew up in a tightly knit family just outside of Boulder, CO. As a family, they clung to Christ through hard times, including job losses and divorce. Through the hard times, God used Rachael's voice to inspire and bring healing. And it was her voice that landed her a Word Recording contract at the age of 14.

The next 8 years of Rachael's life were filled with recording, touring, promoting - a crazy travel schedule that stretched right through adolescence. Some of her adventures included an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The View, ET, CNN, the privilege of recording at Abbey Road Studios in London, and a performance for the Pope in Rome in 2000.

After a few years of rest and searching, Rachael Lampa got married, started writing music again, moved to Nashville and recorded All We Need.

Fun Fact: Rachael starred as Sally in the Christian DVD Hidden Secrets, co-starring John Schneider (from The Dukes of Hazzard).

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Rend Collective

Rend Collective Experiment is an eclectic collective of multi-instrumentalists from the North of Ireland. An inherent desire for something spiritually substantive in our increasingly artificial world is exactly what brought the movement of friends together. United by a common purpose, these twenty-somethings began exploring the intersection between God, life and community.

“The Rend Collective Experiment came together as a few friends started to pray and seek God. We wanted an authentic outworking of our faith and felt that we would just step out into the unknown and see what happened,” Gareth shares. “Before we knew it, people just started gathering around us and we had more than 100 people involved, musicians and artists, bank workers and teachers, and together we tried to figure out our faith.”

After many years in Ireland, the band felt the call to step out again into the unknown as the core 5 of the collective felt they were being called to reach more people. They have now grown into an international success with major tours with Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, Tenth Avenue North and Lecrae under their belts. Their heart is to bring not only a fresh approach to congregational worship, but also a heart and message through the spoken word. Their partnerships and tours with church leaders like Francis Chan, Louie Giglio and Shane Claiborne certainly shows this.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
MercyMe

This Greenville, TX band has been cranking out number 1 hits and gold and platinum albums for almost 20 years. Their early mega-hit I Can Only Imagine did more than launch their careers - it changed the Christian music culture.

On the Upcoming Album: “At 41-years-old, I feel like I am just starting to grasp who I am in Christ,” says lead singer Bart Millard. “I grew up in a somewhat legalistic environment where the harder you try, the better God likes you. It was about two years ago a dear friend of mine reminded me I cannot do enough great things to make Christ love me more than He already does. Not to mention, I can’t sabotage this relationship and be taken from His hand. In other words, all the work was truly done on the cross and I cannot mess it up! This is not a new season in my life, it is my life! Everything has changed from this point on, and I want to tell this to anyone who will listen and be the first to welcome them to the new!”

Funny: The group’s name originated during Bart’s time as a youth ministry intern in Florida. Bart’s grandmother exclaimed, “Well mercy me, why don’t you get a real job?”

Little Known Fact: Bart Millard was a footballer in high school until he sustained an injury to his ankle. He took up choir in school as an elective and never stopped singing.

Random Poll: Is it romantic or cliche to propose on Valentine’s Day?

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Cheri Keaggy

Beginning as a worship leader at a small church in Southern California, Cheri Keaggy has ministered through music and testimony for twenty years. Her debut album, Child of the Father, was released to rave reviews in 1994 earning her a Dove Award nomination for New Artist of the Year.

Countless conferences, eight albums, nine #1 songs, three Dove Award nominations and a Dove Award win later, Cheri is back with an album fueled by one of the darkest periods of her life.

Her new songs were penned following the end of her nearly twenty-three year marriage to her high school sweetheart, Eddie Keaggy (nephew to CCM pioneer Phil Keaggy). Many of the songs are reminiscent of some of David's Psalms; forlorn, hurt, but faithful.

Cheri says, “If God can use our challenges and heartaches to build character that makes us more effective for the Kingdom, than that’s what I want. He can use me however He sees fit.”
