The Joy Ride

Winter is actually the season where life BEGINS. Plants, animals, even people are growing below the surface - anxious to be born during Spring.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Building 429

Jason Roy formed Building 429 to reach others with a story similar to his. He faced a hard childhood and found freedom and relief in the local church. The band's name comes from Ephesians 4:29 "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

In The Beginning: Back in 2005, B429 won the Dove Award for New Artist of the Year.

Building 429 hopes the songs on the GRAMMY nominated album We Won’t Be Shaken remind people they are more than conquerors in Christ. “We don’t want to spend a lot of time talking about who we were before Christ because the old is gone and new has come,” says lead singer Jason Roy. ‘We wanted to talk about how David is no longer shepherd boy. Now he’s King. We didn’t want to talk about Moses the stutterer. We wanted to talk about Moses the leader of the nation. We really felt like we wanted to make a record that said, ‘Stand up! You have been called. We are God’s children. Who can stand against what God has begun?’”

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Nicole C Mullen

Few artists in any genre of music possess a more diverse resume than Nicole C. Mullen. From her early days as a background vocalist/dancer/choreographer to writing and recording such classic hits as “Redeemer” to mentoring young women through her Baby Girls Club, Mullen’s creativity and compassion have fueled a life of ministry that has had global impact. Whether working to help free the Trokosi slaves in Ghana or penning signature songs for other artists—such as the Jaci Velasquez hit “On My Knees”—Mullen has long channeled her considerable energy into not just sharing the gospel, but living it.

God’s plan has taken Nicole C. Mullen down many interesting roads and encompassed a variety of roles. She’s a wife, mother, singer, songwriter, speaker, and a successful businesswoman as well as a minister and mentor. Her latest album is a collection of hymns, available exclusively through Family Christian stores.

Stats: Nicole was the first African American to win a Dove award for the Song of the Year - but topping that - she’s one of three people to ever win the award TWICE!

"It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!" - Mr. Rogers

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Peter Furler

Peter Furler's voice is instantly recognizable - having been the lead singer of The Newsboys for almost 20 years. He was a founding member of the group from Queensland, Australia. Though focusing on his solo career now, he still writes and produces with his friends in The Newsboys - even producing some of their records.

Peter Furler is the quintessential drummer. He taps on EVERYTHING! The beat is always present. It's that driving rhythm that fuels all of his musical passion. Awarded multiple Grammy nominations and Dove awards, Furler was even been named the industry’s songwriter of the year. Between solo ventures and The Newsboys, Furler has sold over 7 million albums!

Furler is also a painter and amateur photographer - creating art that is even more personal than his songs. In fact, on his website you can even check out some of his paintings! So a multi-platinum songwriter who is also a visual artist and as if that weren't enough - he rides motorcycles. The coolness scale was just obliterated.

Joy in The Morning

Verse of The Day

For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously. ARTIST OF THE DAY
Ryan Stevenson

Ryan has been playing worship music since he was 18-years-old, after his youth pastor surprised him by giving him a guitar. From there, Ryan began performing at summer camps, mission trips, and youth groups. The singer also formed an acoustic duo with fellow singer Paul Wright, while attending Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon.

After years of writing songs and performing live shows, Ryan caught the attention of TobyMac, who signed him to his label, Gotee Records.

Besides making albums, Ryan is currently serving as worship leader at Vertical Church Boise, Idaho. He is also a husband, and a father to two boys.

Holding Nothing Back was birthed during a season of extreme personal heartache and uncertainty. On the heels of the death of my mother from bone cancer; the miscarriage of our twins; the division of our home church; and a series of setbacks in my music career—in the midst of this fiery storm—I found myself very disillusioned with God, shaking my fist at Him in anger. I remember questioning if He really actually loves me, and if He's actually good. I was at a point where I was yelling at him saying, "I don't trust You!"

During this time, I felt the "still, small voice" of the Lord. He began to ask me, “If you were to lose everything, would I still be enough for you as your God, as your Savior?” I was extremely convicted and began to weep, knowing I had put my hope and security in things and people rather than in Jesus. I immediately began to pray with a broken, repugnant heart, literally saying the words, "Jesus, I don't want anything coming in between You and me; It doesn't mater what I have to go through, I’m holding nothing back from You."

The Joy Ride

If you take your eyes off Christ, the lies of the enemy can seem like truth.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
The Afters

When The Afters broke out onto the scene, it didn't seem like anything could stop them. Their music was fun, their attitudes were joyful and nothing could slow them down!

But life's circumstances quickly changed everything. After losing their longtime friend and manager to a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, two band members decided to part ways with the band, and then there was a life-threatening car wreck, followed by a new member of the band losing a close friend just one week after joining the group.

It was a rough season of change for The Afters. Holding on to their faith and their passion for making music has kept the band focused throughout the mess of it all. Through the pain, faith grew in abundance and that is definitely the message behind their most recent releases.

Ancient History: The four original members of The Afters met while working at a Starbucks together. The band's original name was Screaming Mimes - then they changed it to Blisse. Thankfully a producer talked them into the The Afters.

TV: The Afters' music has been featured on television shows and promos for shows on almost every major network and various cable shows as well - including Grey's Anatomy, Rachel Ray, Dr. Phil, The Biggest Loser, Army Wives, You Deserve It, October Baby, So You Think You Can Dance, Americas Got Talent, The Hills, The Vineyard and more!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jason Castro

“I’ve heard it said that music is the language of the soul. I think it’s something God created for our souls to be able to rejoice in.” - Jason Castro

Jason Castro is the bright eyed, dreadlocked Christian who captivated the nation on Season 7 of American Idol. The Texan had his pick of music careers after the show and chose to make music aimed at worship.

Raised in the church by a musical family of Colombian descent, Castro started drumming at 11, playing music in the youth ministry, and joined his father in leading worship. As a drummer, Castro loved the intensity of bands like MxPx and Switchfoot. While in college Jason moved from being the crazy drummer to the introspective song-writer. Which meant transitioning from behind the drum kit to behind the microphone.

Jason Castro finished in fourth place on his season of American Idol. That's saying something for a guy who never really thought he had the chops to be a professional singer/songwriter. As a vocal member of the I Am Second movement, Jason has proudly broadcasted his faith, but with his naturally gentle spirit.

Hair: Jason has been rocking dreadlocks for years, but recently cut them off (probably because his daughter would yank at them) and now he looks like a completely different person.
