ARTIST OF THE DAY
7eventh Time Down

The guys of 7eventh Time Down grew up as best friends in Kentucky. They picked up instruments together. They wrote songs together - and now they get to tour and lead worship together! It’s a story that every Christian garage-band dreams of - and it is the story 7eventh Time Down gets to live.

For 7eventh Time Down, every song is an opportunity for ministry. The band has toured with a long list of impressive artists, including Newsboys, for King & Country, KJ-52, Manafest, Fireflight and Stellar Kart. They are on the road over 100 days a year chasing every opportunity to inspire and point people towards Jesus.

In an effort to expand their ministry beyond their music, the band partners with CURE International, a non-profit that operates hospitals and programs in 27 countries worldwide where patients receive surgical treatment and have the opportunity to hear the Gospel. During the “Club Awesome Tour” alone, more than 38 surgeries were funded.

The Joy Ride

What’s that?! Spring, you say? It begins this coming weekend?!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Sidewalk Prophets

Integrating worship with real life - that is one of the simple truths Sidewalk Prophets has learned to live by. Dave Frey and Ben McDonald founded the band in college, having no idea that in a short time they would have a successful record and a loaded touring schedule. A demo tape landed them in a campus talent contest, which somehow connected them to Audio Adrenaline's Will McGinniss, landing them an opening gig for Audio Adrenaline which formed the template for their life now spent on the road over 150 days of the year.

Sounds like a fun life, right? Sure, if you want to leave family and friends to live on the road for half of each year, sleeping in the janitor’s closet at some venues, and making due with beans and cornbread, while trying to practice, write and record in between shows.

Exhausting? Yes.
Worth it? To Sidewalk Prophets, they'd have it no other way!

Dave and Ben rounded out their band with a bassist and drummer they found on Craigslist. So you never know who will respond to your ad!

Yes, it’s Friday the 13th.
No, that doesn't really mean anything.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Hawk Nelson

Special thanks to Daniel Biro (bassist/BGV) for calling in to chat today!

Hawk Nelson is a Christian pop/rock band from Peterborough, Ontario. The band was voted "Favorite New Artist" by CCM Magazine in their February 2006 Reader's Choice Awards. For over a decade the band has pounded the pavement, making fun Christ-focused music.

Relentless touring - six albums - multiple Dove nominations - lots of fun!

But in the Spring of 2012, lead singer Jason Dunn told the guys in the band that he was ready to strike out on a solo career. After lots of prayer (and a bit of encouragement from friend Bart Millard of MercyMe), guitarist Jon Steingard stepped up as the new lead singer of Hawk Nelson.

So while the band's DNA is pretty much the same - in many ways, this is a brand new Hawk Nelson.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Matt Redman

Matt has been leading worship full-time since the age of 20 and this journey has taken him around the world; to South Africa, Japan, India, Australia, Germany, Uganda, Croatia and the Czech Republic. Redman is in an elite group of songwriters responsible for a great deal of what is sung in churches worldwide; including songs: The Heart of Worship, Better is One Day, Blessed Be Your Name and You Never Let Go.

Matt & Beth Redman have five children; Maisey, Noah, Rocco, Jackson and Levi. Based in Atlanta they are part of Passion City Church with pastors Louie and Shelley Giglio. (Yep, same church that also boasts Chris Tomlin, Kristian Stanfill and Nathan and Christy Nockels as members)

Matt is also the author (or co-author with his wife Beth) of four books, all center around the theme of worship and he compiled two other books of practical worship-leading advice from many experienced leaders around the globe.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Ryan Stevenson

Ryan Stevenson has been playing worship music since he was 18-years-old. His youth pastor recognized God-given talent in Ryan and gave him his first guitar. From there, Ryan began performing at summer camps, mission trips, and youth groups. The singer also formed an acoustic duo with fellow singer Paul Wright, while attending Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon.

After years of writing songs and performing live shows, Ryan caught the attention of TobyMac, who signed him to his label, Gotee Records. Toby was blown away by his talent and has co-written numerous songs with Ryan.

Besides making albums, Ryan is currently serving as worship leader at Vertical Church Boise, Idaho. He is also a husband, and a father to two boys.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Passion

The Passion Worship Team is basically the All-Star team of worship leaders - and it all began way back in the mid 1990s.

Louie Giglio founded the Passion Conference in 1995 to specifically target young people (18-25 years old) with the Gospel of Christ. With the help of his friends: Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, Christy and Nathan Nockels, Matt Redman, Kristian Stanfill, Francis Chan, John Piper... uhm ... pretty much everybody, really…

The conferences became a global force for spreading passion for Christ to the next generation.

Louie Giglio and company also founded the Passion City Church in Atlanta as their local ministry to the city which has become the hub for the conferences worldwide.

Don’t forget to set your clock one hour FORWARD on Saturday night.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jeff Deyo

While other six year olds were developing their hand- and foot-eye coordination with tag and kickball, Jeff Deyo cultivated his behind 88 ivory keys. He also liked to explore the woods around his family’s Denver, CO home, but music was his passion from the start.

Jeff Deyo was the original lead singer of the Dove Award-winning group Sonicflood; the voice behind classic worship songs like I Could Sing of Your Love Forever, In the Secret, and My Refuge. Deyo followed up these accomplishments by releasing four acclaimed worship recordings with Moving Mountains as his fifth and newest worship album.

Jeff Deyo is the founder of Worship City Ministries through which he creates, serves and participates in a variety of ministries worldwide. From teaching at conferences to leading worship for large and small events.

In addition, Jeff is also Professor Deyo now - a full-time faculty member at North Central University (NCU) in Minneapolis, MN. He is also an honorary pastor at his home church, Celebration Church in Lakeville, MN and has been married to his college sweetheart, Martha, for 20 years. Spring is two weeks away! Seriously. I promise!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Paul Baloche

A native of Maple Shade, New Jersey, Paul Baloche is currently the worship pastor at Community Christian Fellowship in Lindale, Texas.

Paul doesn’t shy away from Christ when writing. He says about the music industry, “[I write] a lot of songs about the Cross... People are almost apologetic about it, and yet I feel challenged not to shrink from it. Our tendency is to make our language inclusive and seeker friendly. And I get that, but we also need songs that point to the truth of the new covenant.”

Many of his songs are among the most performed songs in American churches according to the CCLI (a company that handles music licensing). Among them are Open the Eyes of My Heart (ranked number 2) and Above All (ranked number 22).

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Lindsay McCaul

Lindsay McCaul was born in Abilene, Texas, but moved to Florida when she was nine. Her family lived so close to the Space Center that she remembers hearing the Shuttle rattle her windows when it launched. Lindsay would sneak out of bed to turn on her radio and listen to Christian radio late into the night. She'd sing along and worship nearly every night. She started writing songs before she even turned twelve. Songwriting became the filter through which McCaul explored her relationship with God and expressed what He was revealing to her.

Lindsay continued to write after she moved to Chicago to attend Moody Bible Institute, where she studied linguistics with the hope of translating the Bible into foreign languages. A worship pastor at the school signed her up to lead worship in chapel, despite Lindsay's begging to not do it. She faced her fears and flourished. Soon she began leading worship at Chicago’s Harvest Bible Chapel, a 14,000-member church.

Her original songs became favorites with the congregation and began to attract notice outside the church. McCaul’s music came to the attention of industry titans Mark Hall, of Casting Crowns, who invited her on tour with the band; and Jason Ingram, who helped produce her album.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Tim Halperin

Hailing from Omaha, Nebraska - Tim Halperin is quickly winning over the rest of America from sea to shining sea. His soulful, almost jazztastic vibe has been compared to other notable pop singer songwriters like Jason Mraz. But his lyrical depth sets him apart. A depth rooted in his faith in Christ.

Tim began taking piano lessons at age six - which is a good age to do it. The difference being, unlike most six year old piano students, Tim actually practiced! In middle school he began singing on the worship team at his church, and soon started playing with local bands and singing in choir at Westside High School in Omaha.

For college Tim Halperin moved to Fort Worth, TX and studied business at Texas Christian University. He kept writing music, but also worked a bank job and graduated with his business degree in 2010. During this time he recorded some independent albums and found internet fame through YouTube. After graduating college a friend talked him into trying out for American Idol and soon he was performing in Hollywood, making the Top 24.

Tim Halperin is finding success in both Christian and secular radio - his latest album being a stellar blend of love songs and contemplative worship. He also has ties to YoungLife - a Christian camp organization that he has led worship for - and even penned the comical love ballad Young Life Girl, which you can watch below!
