Joy In The Morning

Verse of the Day

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

Ephesians 1:5

The Joy Ride

Hope this weekend is everything you wanted and then some!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Living Anthem

The word Anthem means “a song or hymn of praise”. It was Living Anthem’s desire that they worship God with their lifestyles as well as with their music. Hoping to live up to their name, Living Anthem places a great deal of importance on their personal walk with Jesus Christ.

“People are tired of actors, that is why reality TV is so popular. We are not just acting when we call ourselves a Christian band, we are Christian men longing to do our part in shaking the world for Jesus Christ,” says lead vocalist Matt Seagle.

Living Anthem formed in 2003 in Atlanta, GA - toured relentlessly and produced some great worship music. Last Fall the band went on hiatus, with no date set for a return.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
An Epic, No Less

The story of An Epic, No Less began with Todd Larson. Todd was aware of God's calling on his life to lead worship - but he fought it. He refused to play Christian music because he felt it wasn't cool enough - it didn't challenge the artist in him enough. So he played in several rock bands - not living a depraved lifestyle - but not not following God's calling either.

During a mission trip with his church, Todd found himself scraping cement off of hollow walls in a slum somewhere in Uganda. He was alone, bored and a little scared - and it was in this place that God showed Todd what praise and worship really is. His heart was forever changed - and his determination to answer God's call.

With his best friend, drummer Daniel Chancellor - and Daniel's wife Hannah, An Epic, No Less was formed. All three were committed to worship and also to exploring musically what that might sound like. Their sound is certainly a different take on praise and worship - a musical genre dominated by acoustic guitar and a G, C, D chord progression. But as determined as the group is to create lovely music - they stand on one simple goal: to help people in worship and prayer.

The Name: The band's name comes from a John Eldridge quote, “..because they knew the Christian life as an epic, no less than the greatest myths the world has ever known.”

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Love & The Outcome

Imagine selling most of your worldly possessions (including the place you call home) and hitting the road to pursue a musical vision. You're leaving your native country. You have no idea what's ahead. You don't know where you'll rest for the night. You take stock and realize that all you have—or all you have left—are your songs, your dreams, your spouse, and your trust in God … and these four things make up the rope of hopefulness you cling to, day in and day out. This is the story of Love & The Outcome.

The husband-wife duo Love & The Outcome have packed their debut album with songs that speak to the faith journey they've braved these past few years. Vocalist Jodi King and her husband, bass player Chris Rademaker, have come a long way since selling their condo in Winnipeg, Manitoba (about 400 miles northwest of Minneapolis) in 2010 and hitting the road to share Jesus through music.

"We want to inspire people to follow Jesus,” Jodi says. "We want these songs to become a lifestyle, and hope that the truth of these songs goes beyond the thrill of the live show to plant a seed in people's hearts: to go for the things that they might be afraid to go for and join this joyful revolution. That's the whole point. A life that requires faith is worth living, and a life on the edge is one where you live hand-in-hand and arm-in-arm with God. That's what we're living for."

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Relient K

Relient K formed in 1998 in Canton, Ohio (Matt Thiessen, Brian Pittman, and Matt Hoopes) during the guys’ junior year in high school. The band is named after Hoopes' old Plymouth Reliant K car.

Some musicians focus on women's ministry, missions and worship. Relient K has always focused on a joyful exuberance that draws in kids and teens. They take seriously their position as role models, but try not to get caught up in the seriousness of life. Listen to any Relient K album and not only will you find yourself wanting to dance around, it is near impossible to wipe the silly grin off your face.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
33 Miles

After the breakout success of 33 Miles’ debut, One Life, founding member Collin Stoddard left the trio to follow God's calling on his life to be a full time worship pastor. But the group pressed on (Chris and Jason) making music, leading worship and growing their faith as a dynamic duo. They pushed the boundaries of Christian Country music and conquered the genre completely.

After doing the big record label thing for a couple of albums, 33 Miles went independent and produced two more hit records (both worship projects) - and now it is the end of an era. Chris Lockwood announced via the band’s website that he is retiring from 33 Miles to spend less time on the road - and more with his family. Will another incarnation of the band come about? Possibly. But for now, it’s the end of the road for 33 Miles.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Shawn McDonald

Originally from Oregon, now Seattle-based - Shawn McDonald crafts somber melodies with rich lyrical depth. Shawn's journey has taught him to appreciate and delight in the truly good things of life and to embrace each season as it unfolds. He yearns to find contentment and accept every step God leads him on.

The Transformation: Shawn was a drug addict/dealer in trouble with the law at age 20. It was then, near suicide that Shawn came to know Jesus Christ. He is a life completely transformed by Grace.

In preparation for his album Closer, Shawn took a job as a taxi driver in Nashville, TN - collecting stories that fuel his new songs. He's also a budding photographer and deeply interwoven in the Seattle art scene.

Audiophiles: If you are into music, you'll be impressed by the undertaking Shawn accomplished for his brand new Best of... collection. For The Analog Sessions Shawn recorded everything on tape - no computers. Old school recording at it's finest. Instead of repackaging his hits, he actually re-recorded them with vintage instruments and even sang on one of Frank Sinatra's old microphones!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Shaun Groves

Shaun Grove’s salvation story began at the age of six with a dash down the aisle during an altar call given by a fiery revival meeting preacher. That was the beginning of a journey - one filled with fear of condemnation. Over the next several years Shaun wrestled with that fear and the loving God he was reading about in the Bible. By age 12 Shaun found the peace he was missing when he realized that Jesus actually loved him - and there is no condemnation in Christ.

The life plan Shaun created while at Baylor University made sense on paper: marry his sweetheart Becky, become a church minister and write Christian songs on the side. But an internship with a Nashville music publisher led to a job, and that led to interest around town in his singing and songwriting. Shaun signed a recording contract at the end of 2000, just a week before the birth of the couple’s first child.

Shaun Groves' 2001 debut Invitation to Eavesdrop scored five songs on the charts and a half dozen Dove Award nominations, including New Artist and Song of the Year for Welcome Home. He was soon touring coast to coast and around the world with Bebo Norman, Jars of Clay and Michael W. Smith. “New plan,” he thought.

After a few years of working the music scene, and rarely seeing his family, Shaun found himself doubting the trajectory of life. After becoming involved with Compassion International, and it was then that Shaun Groves found his special purpose.

The Groves family began working with missionaries in El Salvador and speaking at churches around the US, bringing light to the situation. Now, more than just a musician, the Groves family consider themselves communicators bent on connecting the first world to the third - for the betterment of both.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Meredith Andrews

Meredith Andrews was working as the worship leader at Chicago's Harvest Bible Chapel when she was picked up by Word Records. Her debut album The Invitation featured the hit song You're Not Alone that propelled her into the spotlight, landed her a tour with Michael W. Smith and multiple Dove Award nominations.

That was in 2008. Flash forward 6 years and she's now a veteran of the industry. She's got three hit albums under her belt - She's won Dove Awards, toured the world, gotten married, had a babies (Maverick & Asher) and continues to win new fans with her approachable worship music and kind spirit.

A native of Wilson, NC, she began singing in church when she was only six-years-old, and by the time she was in high school, she was writing songs and leading worship. Andrews went on to attend Liberty University, majoring in family and child development. She originally planned to work at an orphanage. However, during her junior year at Liberty, she felt God calling her into music ministry.
