ARTIST OF THE DAY
MercyMe

This Greenville, TX band has been cranking out number 1 hits and gold and platinum albums for almost 20 years. Their early mega-hit I Can Only Imagine did more than launch their careers - it changed the Christian music culture.

On the Upcoming Album: “At 41-years-old, I feel like I am just starting to grasp who I am in Christ,” says lead singer Bart Millard. “I grew up in a somewhat legalistic environment where the harder you try, the better God likes you. It was about two years ago a dear friend of mine reminded me I cannot do enough great things to make Christ love me more than He already does. Not to mention, I can’t sabotage this relationship and be taken from His hand. In other words, all the work was truly done on the cross and I cannot mess it up! This is not a new season in my life, it is my life! Everything has changed from this point on, and I want to tell this to anyone who will listen and be the first to welcome them to the new!”

Funny: The group’s name originated during Bart’s time as a youth ministry intern in Florida. Bart’s grandmother exclaimed, “Well mercy me, why don’t you get a real job?”

Little Known Fact: Bart Millard was a footballer in high school until he sustained an injury to his ankle. He took up choir in school as an elective and never stopped singing.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Cheri Keaggy

Beginning as a worship leader at a small church in Southern California, Cheri Keaggy has ministered through music and testimony for twenty years. Her debut album, Child of the Father, was released to rave reviews in 1994 earning her a Dove Award nomination for New Artist of the Year.

Countless conferences, eight albums, nine #1 songs, three Dove Award nominations and a Dove Award win later, Cheri is back with an album fueled by one of the darkest periods of her life.

Her new songs were penned following the end of her nearly twenty-three year marriage to her high school sweetheart, Eddie Keaggy (nephew to CCM pioneer Phil Keaggy). Many of the songs are reminiscent of some of David's Psalms; forlorn, hurt, but faithful.

Cheri says, “If God can use our challenges and heartaches to build character that makes us more effective for the Kingdom, than that’s what I want. He can use me however He sees fit.”

ARTIST OF THE DAY
NewSong

After 30 years and 20 #1 radio hits - NewSong is still pushing the limits to reach a new generation for Christ. Members have come and gone - and some fresh young musicians have joined the core group to produce a sound that is both fresh and classic NewSong.

When Eddie Carswell and Billy Goodwin, who continue to lead the evolving group, started out in 1981 at Morningside Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia, neither of them imagined NewSong would repeatedly outdo itself for so many years. Now the guys are headed into their fourth decade of music and just keeps getting better!

After nearly a decade away, award winning front-man Russ Lee returned to the group in 2010. Their newest album Swallow The Ocean captures the essence of this evolving, multi-generational band, yet somehow still has the heart and soul of the NewSong of old.

Trendsetters: NewSong founded and continue to tour as a part of WinterJam. This massive multi-artist American tour brings Christian music's biggest acts to cities all across America and never charges more than $10. The goal - to bring the best music to everyone - and provide an incredible time of worship for the whole family!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Steve & Shawn

Steve & Shawn travel full-time leading worship, teaching on worship, and doing hands-on training sessions for worship teams (your people, your equipment) for all areas (instrumentalists, vocalists, songwriters, and technical). Their teaching is funny, practical, and encouraging - with a goal to equip the local church - rather than have them be just an audience.

Steve & Shawn’s music is diverse, modern, and scalable - meaning they want churches to take it and make it their own! Steve is 6’6” tall, a photographer, an mc, a triathlete and a wanna-be chef. Shawn is Steve's wife and a lover of all things mocha. She also has a piano performance degree. Together they have 2 sons and served together as youth pastors for over 6 years in their local church.

Midday Joy

Happy Friday - you made it!

If you're looking for a tasty dip to enjoy during Sunday's SuperBowl, look no further. Here's the recipe for my husband's fave: Buffalo Chicken Dip. The bonus is...you probably already have these ingredients in your fridge/pantry. Enjoy! And GO BRONCOS/SEAHAWKS {whichever you prefer}.

BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1 can (10 ounces) chunk white chicken, drained
1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce
1/2 cup ranch salad dressing
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded Colby-Monterey Jack cheese
French bread baguette slices, celery ribs or tortilla chips, optional

Preheat oven to 350°. Spread cream cheese into an ungreased shallow 1-qt. baking dish. Layer with chicken, wing sauce and salad dressing. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake, uncovered, 20-25 minutes or until cheese is melted.

-Karen

P.S. Hang out with me on the air this Sunday from 4-9pm. While assembling your dip, you can enjoy some great music, too. If you turn off the radio to watch the Superbowl, I won't be offended (well, maybe a little bit).
