ARTIST OF THE DAY
Dan Bremnes

Dan Bremnes grew up in a rustic part of Canada - Salmon Arm, British Columbia. He was never into being a Royal Canadian Mounty, professional LaCross player or even a milk bagger (all legit dreams of a Canadian child). Nope, Dan was a drummer. He was banging out beats from before he could walk. He joined his church worship team at age 10 (because everyone needs drummers). Over the years he picked up the guitar and fell in love with songwriting - but let’s face it, there are limited music related career options in a place called Salmon Arm, British Columbia.

It was a six-month missions trip in Australia with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) that would help re-shape his perspective: “While I was there, something happened in my life, and God started working on my heart. I started to go a lot deeper in my faith,” Dan shares. “Something sort of clicked in me. I’ve always had these opportunities to lead worship and share about my faith, and I started thinking about making music that was really intentional about reaching people on a spiritual level. I wanted to come right out and speak about God and my relationship with Him.”

But challenges don’t just go away when you commit yourself to a life of faith. It’s actually quite the opposite. Soon Dan’s mom was killed in a car accident, there were touring struggles as an independent artist. Dan and his wife had a baby just as his career was picking up steam. So the couple took a leap of faith and moved their family to Nashville, TN.

So pray for Dan Bremnes and this journey of faith and music that he is on. And enjoy his music on Joy! 102.5.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Jason Castro

“I’ve heard it said that music is the language of the soul. I think it’s something God created for our souls to be able to rejoice in.” - Jason Castro

Jason Castro is the bright eyed, dreadlocked Christian who captivated the nation on Season 7 of American Idol. The Texan had his pick of music careers after the show and chose to make music aimed at worship.

Raised in the church by a musical family of Colombian descent, Castro started drumming at 11, playing music in the youth ministry, and joined his father in leading worship. As a drummer, Castro loved the intensity of bands like MxPx and Switchfoot. While in college Jason moved from being the crazy drummer to the introspective song-writer. Which meant transitioning from behind the drumkit to behind the microphone.

Jason Castro finished in fourth place on his season of American Idol. That's saying something for a guy who never really thought he had the chops to be a professional singer/songwriter. As a vocal member of the I Am Second movement, Jason has proudly broadcasted his faith, but with his naturally gentle spirit.

Hair: Jason has been rocking dreadlocks for years, but recently cut them off (probably because his daughter would yank at them) and now he looks like a completely different person.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Britt Nicole

A native of Salisbury, NC, Britt has always had a heart for reaching people and has long used music as the vehicle to change lives. She began singing in church at age three and by the time she was in high school, was appearing on her church’s daily television program and logged a performance at New York’s famed Carnegie Hall with her school’s advanced chorus.

History: Those early pursuits paved the way for her to sign with Sparrow Records in 2006. She burst on the charts a year later with her label debut, Say It. It was a super-fun album with surprising lyrical depth - and it earned her a slot on the Winter Jam tour that year with Steven Curtis Chapman, Jeremy Camp, NewSong and Hawk Nelson where she developed a reputation as a compelling live performer. It was in 2011 when she received her first Dove Award nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year.

Abroad: Aside for making a name for herself in the states - Britt's pop-electronica stuff has been charting solidly in the UK. Expect a lot more from her in the future. Even in her early 20s, she's already a veteran in the new world order of Christian music.

Personal: Britt and her husband (drummer/producer) Josh Crocker welcomed their first child this past year!

Through high school and college, Kari watched God set the path before her as she began leading worship in various places. She spent time studying at Oral Roberts University, Christ For The Nations and Dallas Baptist University, where she finished her Psychology and Pastoral Ministries degree.

For nearly a decade Kari has been a worship pastor at her home church in Southlake, TX. She is a featured worship leader on many Gateway Worship projects and in 2009 released her self-titled debut album (and promptly won her first Dove award). Hillsong Worship

One church, from the far corner of the earth has single-handedly inspired three generations worth of worship music. Hillsong. How did a single church connect with the global Church in such a meaningful way? Well they have always (and continue to) raise up leaders and encourage diversity in worship.

Every year the worship ministry produces a live worship album that includes hundreds of leaders from across the globe. This year’s release No Other Name is decidedly special. Blending the sounds of their variety of worship teams - including Dove Award nominees UNITED and Young & Free - the collection of original worship songs will no doubt inspire and enable worship teams and churches from all corners of the world.

JOYNOTES!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Unspoken

Unspoken first came together after lead singer Chad Mattson met guitarist Mike Gomez on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic. Chad had been struggling with drug and alcohol addiction for years, and decided to go on a mission trip to re-build his relationship with God. It was there in the Dominican Republic where Chad’s eyes were opened and he came to know Christ in a powerful way - and both Chad and Mike realized God was calling them to something big!

Chad and Mike began playing music together, and performing live shows based out of Maine. Eventually, bass player Jon Lowry and drummer Ariel Munoz from Puerto Rico, joined the duo and Unspoken was born.

Ministry: In addition to their music, the band is involved with Celebrate Recovery, a faith-based 12-step recovery program for substance abuse.
