Joy In The Morning

Verse Of The Day

In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power to him forever! Amen.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Seth Condrey

Seth Condrey is a worship leader out of NorthPoint Church in Atlanta, GA. He grew up in a family that was always on the road - leading worship around America. By adolescence, Seth was writing his own songs of worship - enamored by the songwriting process, which allowed him to praise God using his voice and his skills on the guitar.

“God has spoken to me so much through music and I feel the need to offer what I can back to Him and to others in complete humility as a gift of appreciation for all that He has done in my life.”

Seth is a triple threat in that he sings, plays guitar AND is bi-lingual. In 2008, he won a Dove Award for Spanish language album of the year!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Citizens & Saints

Citizens & Saints is a worship band born out the heart of Seattle’s University District. Originally called “Citizens” - there was a conflict of copyright with another band from England - so the band chose an altered moniker, Citizens & Saints. C&S has quickly built a reputation for their dynamic hymn arrangements and high intensity anthems.

Last Christmas the band put out an incredible EP called Repeat The Sounding Joy - which was one of the most fun new Christmas projects of 2013! They have a new full length worship album planned for the end of October.

Citizens & Saints hope their music can do one thing—unite the Church by proclaiming the gospel through song and "Join The Triumph" is the message they want to convey. C&S sings to remind the local church that they’re part of the big-“C” Church—a victorious body whose sole job is to proclaim God’s Kingdom across the Earth.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
JJ Heller

Most overnight successes take years to accomplish. For example, JJ Heller began writing and performing music full time with her husband Dave back in 2003. But it wasn't until 2009 that her song Your Hands skyrocketed her to Christian radio recognition. Only in the entertainment industry can a 10 year career be classified as an overnight success.

Family: The Hellers have two daughters and are based out of Phoenix, Arizona (it's a dry heat).

When you listen to JJ Heller, listen for honesty and melody. It's those two words that define her style and life. JJ is actively songwriting, blogging, sewing, decorating and being a wife and mother. Her newest album is a collection of lullabies written by her and her husband for their two daughters. And she’s also published her very first children’s book: The Golden Feather.

JJ says: "God's helped me to see life as an adventure rather than a series of potential hurts. The world can be scary, but when we know we're loved, we can be open to risks because we are confident in our identity."

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Sidewalk Prophets

Integrating worship with real life - that is one of the simple truths Sidewalk Prophets has learned to live by. Dave Frey and Ben McDonald founded the band in college, having no idea that in a short time they would have a successful record and a loaded touring schedule. A demo tape landed them in a campus talent contest, which somehow connected them to Audio Adrenaline's Will McGinniss, landing them an opening gig for Audio Adrenaline which formed the template for their life now spent on the road over 150 days of the year.

Sounds like a fun life, right? Sure, if you want to leave family and friends to live on the road for half of each year, sleeping in the janitor’s closet at some venues, and making due with beans and cornbread, while trying to practice, write and record in between shows.

Exhausting? Yes.
Worth it? To Sidewalk Prophets, they'd have it no other way!

Dave and Ben rounded out their band with a bassist and drummer they found on Craigslist. So you never know who will respond to your ad!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Luminate

Luminate frontman Sam Hancock (lead vocal/guitar) grew up in Washington, IN, and began leading worship at his church at 14. While Sam continued this role through high school, he also struggled with the same issues of many teens. He calls his late high school years his time of rebellion.

Upon graduation, Hancock was at a crossroads of choosing business school or music school. He chose music and enrolled at the Visible School of Music in Memphis. It was there he met Dusty Jakubik (bass), who was looking for a fresh start after the group he was in fell apart. From there the pieces fell into place, adding additional members to the group that would become Luminate.

The Message: Luminate aims to show people that they have purpose when they think they have none.

The Goal: Reaching the world through song, and to bring hope by example, humility, and truth to a generation filled with apathy and confusion.

In a letter on the band’s website, Sam Hancock announced that the group will now focus solely on leading worship in local churches. They want to step out of the music industry and back into equipping God’s people to worship. A new worship album is due out later this Winter.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Living Anthem

The word Anthem means “a song or hymn of praise”. It was Living Anthem’s desire that they worship God with their lifestyles as well as with their music. Hoping to live up to their name, Living Anthem places a great deal of importance on their personal walk with Jesus Christ.

“People are tired of actors, that is why reality TV is so popular. We are not just acting when we call ourselves a Christian band, we are Christian men longing to do our part in shaking the world for Jesus Christ,” says lead vocalist Matt Seagle.

Living Anthem formed in 2003 in Atlanta, GA - toured relentlessly and produced some great worship music. Last Fall the band went on hiatus, with no date set for a return.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
An Epic, No Less

The story of An Epic, No Less began with Todd Larson. Todd was aware of God's calling on his life to lead worship - but he fought it. He refused to play Christian music because he felt it wasn't cool enough - it didn't challenge the artist in him enough. So he played in several rock bands - not living a depraved lifestyle - but not not following God's calling either.

During a mission trip with his church, Todd found himself scraping cement off of hollow walls in a slum somewhere in Uganda. He was alone, bored and a little scared - and it was in this place that God showed Todd what praise and worship really is. His heart was forever changed - and his determination to answer God's call.

With his best friend, drummer Daniel Chancellor - and Daniel's wife Hannah, An Epic, No Less was formed. All three were committed to worship and also to exploring musically what that might sound like. Their sound is certainly a different take on praise and worship - a musical genre dominated by acoustic guitar and a G, C, D chord progression. But as determined as the group is to create lovely music - they stand on one simple goal: to help people in worship and prayer.

The Name: The band's name comes from a John Eldridge quote, “..because they knew the Christian life as an epic, no less than the greatest myths the world has ever known.”

Love & The Outcome

Imagine selling most of your worldly possessions (including the place you call home) and hitting the road to pursue a musical vision. You're leaving your native country. You have no idea what's ahead. You don't know where you'll rest for the night. You take stock and realize that all you have—or all you have left—are your songs, your dreams, your spouse, and your trust in God … and these four things make up the rope of hopefulness you cling to, day in and day out. This is the story of Love & The Outcome.

The husband-wife duo Love & The Outcome have packed their debut album with songs that speak to the faith journey they've braved these past few years. Vocalist Jodi King and her husband, bass player Chris Rademaker, have come a long way since selling their condo in Winnipeg, Manitoba (about 400 miles northwest of Minneapolis) in 2010 and hitting the road to share Jesus through music.

"We want to inspire people to follow Jesus,” Jodi says. "We want these songs to become a lifestyle, and hope that the truth of these songs goes beyond the thrill of the live show to plant a seed in people's hearts: to go for the things that they might be afraid to go for and join this joyful revolution. That's the whole point. A life that requires faith is worth living, and a life on the edge is one where you live hand-in-hand and arm-in-arm with God. That's what we're living for."

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Relient K

Relient K formed in 1998 in Canton, Ohio (Matt Thiessen, Brian Pittman, and Matt Hoopes) during the guys’ junior year in high school. The band is named after Hoopes' old Plymouth Reliant K car.

Some musicians focus on women's ministry, missions and worship. Relient K has always focused on a joyful exuberance that draws in kids and teens. They take seriously their position as role models, but try not to get caught up in the seriousness of life. Listen to any Relient K album and not only will you find yourself wanting to dance around, it is near impossible to wipe the silly grin off your face.
