ARTIST OF THE DAY
The Afters

When The Afters broke out onto the scene, it didn't seem like anything could stop them. Their music was fun, their attitudes were joyful and nothing could slow them down!

But life's circumstances quickly changed everything. After losing their longtime friend and manager to a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, two band members decided to part ways with the band, and then there was a life-threatening car wreck, followed by a new member of the band losing a close friend just one week after joining the group.

It was a rough season of change for The Afters. Holding on to their faith and their passion for making music has kept the band focused throughout the mess of it all. Through the pain, faith grew in abundance and that is definitely the message behind their most recent releases.

Ancient History: The four original members of The Afters met while working at a Starbucks together. The band's original name was Screaming Mimes - then they changed it to Blisse. Thankfully a producer talked them into the The Afters.

TV: The Afters' music has been featured on television shows and promos for shows on almost every major network and various cable shows as well - including Grey's Anatomy, Rachel Ray, Dr. Phil, The Biggest Loser, Army Wives, You Deserve It, October Baby, So You Think You Can Dance, Americas Got Talent, The Hills, The Vineyard and more!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Group 1 Crew

Born out of Orlando, FL, G1C is a hip-hop/rap/pop/rock/dance/electronica/worship hybrid group that is infused with a crazy sense of joy as they celebrate God through relentlessly fun music! They’ve seen some changes through the years - originally a trio, two out of the three founding members have moved on to new projects and seasons of life. Now fronted by Manuel Reyes and a rotating cast of musicians, the band is poised for a rebirth in 2015.

The Joy Ride

One week from this moment… Christmas. Music.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
NewWorldSon

How do you describe the sound of NewWorldSon? According to their press release: "The award-winning band's music is a veritable melting pot of gospel, R&B, reggae and jazz fused together with an innate pop sensibility. The result is a combustion of flavor like no other that can only be fully appreciated after seeing the band perform live."

The Canadian quartet has been winning JUNO Awards and GMA Canada Covenant Awards for years. Wildly popular abroad, we are just now falling in love with them stateside. The group was featured on newsboys' wildly popular "GO" tour and received invitations to headline festivals in Australia, Germany, Holland and Sweden, quickly extending its international reach.

Joel, Josh, Rich and Mark take their musical artistry very seriously. But they are adament that the music means nothing without Christ. They believe that music can make you feel good, but life isn't all happy rainbows and shiny stars. Salvation is the root of every single one of their songs.

The Joy Ride

ONE WEEK until Thanksgiving!

ARTIST OF THE DAY
MIKESCHAIR

Music could always be heard coming out of Mike Grayson's dorm room, attracting other musicians to volunteer in his jam sessions. Before long, a band had formed! The band gets its name from, you guessed it, the chair frontman Mike Grayson sat in during band practice. It's kind of a lackluster story, actually...

Though they love music, each member of MIKESCHAIR admits it’s about so much more. “We all really have this desire to be involved in ministry,” Hale says. “We are obviously all really passionate about music, but we always want it to be about something more. We saw that we all had the same heart for this and then God just kept opening doors.”

Big Break: Just a few weeks into the band's creation, the guys won Belmont University's Music Showcase competition, signed to CURB Records and got themselves nominated at the Dove Awards for Song of The Year (for Let The Waters Rise).

Family Connections: Mike Grayson is married to Molly Reed who is one half of City Harbor - another awesome Christian act. Molly got her start writing pop hits for Amy Grant.

Citizen Way is a band of brothers. Two sets of brothers, actually. Ben and David Blascoe and Ben and Josh Calhoun. Originally the band went by the name The Least Of These. Both sets of brothers are from Elgin, IL (the Chicagoland area).

Though new to the top of the charts, these brothers have been playing music together since 2004 - when they met at Judson University.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Matt Brouwer

Matt Brouwer is originally from Nova Scotia - which is not a program on PBS as I originally thought, but the frozen tundra of the Great White North. Now he calls Texas home. Because I assume either his GPS broke or God directed his path to lead worship for a local church. Probably the latter.

After making his debut in 2001, Matt stepped away from a hectic touring schedule to focus on missions and took extended trips to Venezuela, Poland, Jamaica and Guatemala. Like most who see God at work outside of the confines of North America, Matt was struck by how deep faith was when put together with abject poverty and persecution.

It was those convictions that spurred him onward in his musical career, crafting songs that were at once worshipful and unafraid to ask hard questions about faith and God.

Time to defrost the turkey. If it weighs like 30 pounds.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Laura Story

Laura Story won a GRAMMY and several Dove Awards for her song Blessings. Her lyrics remind us that God works in ways that we would prefer He didn't - but that His ways are truly better. It was a hard learned lesson. For several years Laura has walked a dark path with her husband Martin Elvington. Just a year after they married Martin was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He was kept alive with a breathing machine and surgeons operated multiple times trying to save his life. Through the process Martin lost much of his vision and continues to suffer severe memory loss.

Like the story of Job, God has poured out tremendous blessing on Laura and her family after a very difficult time. Laura and Martin welcomed their first child last Summer (daughter, Josie) - and twins just weeks ago!. Plus Laura Story continues to serve at a mega-church in Atlanta where she teaches a new generation how to lead worship.

The Joy Ride

I don’t know about you, but Christmas parties are already taking up space on my family calendar.
2014 is almost over and I hope that we can make the ending something special.

ARTIST OF THE DAY
The City Harmonic

In 2011, a band hailing from Ontario, Canada made a tremendous splash into the United States. Their debut album Introducing The City Harmonic featured a hit song that captivated the American Christian radio audience and scored a surprise late hit. The song was Manifesto.

The band's first full-length album I Have A Dream conquered American airwaves with hit songs like the title track, Mountaintop and Holy (Wedding Day). Their latest album Heart continues establishing a sincere track record of worship.

It'd be one thing if their popularity was fueled simply by their creative piano driven rock sound, but it's the lyrical depth that gives the band staying power. Many times, taken directly from scripture and constantly surging towards moments of worship - The City Harmonic's songs have been called "a roadmap with only one route, to sum up the journey of faith and mystery."

ARTIST OF THE DAY
All Sons & Daughters

The worship duo of David Leonard and Leslie Jordan was birthed in 2010 from Journey Church located in the Nashville suburb of Franklin, Tennessee. Jordan and Leonard met at Journey in the summer of 2009 where they began writing worship songs for their church family. Their evolution into a duo began when they started leading those songs together on Sunday mornings. Both currently serve on staff at Journey as Worship Designers in the Creative Arts Ministry.

Leslie Jordan has been leading worship since age 14, both in her own church and for churches and conferences across the United States. David Leonard grew up in Southeast Arkansas and attended college at John Brown University. While attending the university, Leonard began the Word Records band Jackson Waters. After Jackson Waters disbanded in 2008, Leonard toured with NEEDTOBREATHE for a couple of years before forming All Sons & Daughters.

Verse of the Day

"For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning."

Psalm 30:5

The Joy Ride

ARTIST OF THE DAY
Kutless

This Oregon based rock group is in the midst of a second musical career. After selling nearly 2 million records and touring the world as a preeminent Christian rock quintet, Kutless found a new voice producing quality worship records.

Their first worship album was Strong Tower (2005) - and not only was it a hit with critics and fans, but it revealed the true nature of Kutless' calling - to bring people closer to Jesus. In any industry there is pressure to repeat success and Kutless approached the matter hesitantly. They didn't want to produce another worship record just because everyone loved the first one. The band knew that worship has to be authentic. With much prayer and counsel from their pastors, Kutless have continued to create amazing worship projects; four amazing albums worth!

Of course anyone who has seen Kutless live in concert knows that their worship is … ehem… louder than most.

The Name: Christ took our beating and paid the wages of our sin. Romans 6:23. He took our cuts for us leaving us...Kutless.
