ARTIST OF THE DAY
David Crowder has been a worship leader since college. While at Baylor University in Waco, TX - he and some friends founded a church focussed on college students called University Baptist Church. His friend Chris Seay (Robbie Seay’s brother) was the preacher and David led worship.
As the worship band progressed, they began writing original worship songs - and even recorded a couple of independent albums, distributed mostly around Texas at youth events. This was the beginning of the David Crowder*Band. For fifteen years, this church worship group transformed popular worship music, helped establish the Passion Conference and released some of the most creative and exciting Christian albums of the new millennium.
But fifteen years is a long time. Families were started, different career paths were chosen and ultimately, the band decided it was time for some change. Some of DC*B formed The Digital Age and David formed a new collective of worship leaders and musicians under the name Crowder.
Crowder’s debut album Neon Steeple was released this May and is both familiar and wildly different. The new sound blends Bluegrass, Country, Folk and Electronica for an often introspective, but always boldly praise oriented collection of songs.
